Earthquake DamageYou can see the cracks in the soil caused by the recent earthquake. Many old buildings either fell down or were demolished as a result of this upheaval. Our house was partially rebuilt with a cash grant from the Italian Government (or so it seems). All houses now have to be designed to withstand quite strong earthquakes which is why reinforced concrete columns and floor beams are now so prevalent.
Earthquakes are a way of life in Italy and Umbria gets its share of them.
